How It Works

1. Search Gmail for Transactions — Scans your Gmail inbox daily (or triggered by new emails) to identify bank and credit card transaction notifications using advanced query syntax
2. Retrieve Full Email Content — Fetches the complete email body for each transaction to extract detailed information
3. Extract & Categorize Expenses — Uses Claude Haiku to intelligently parse merchant names, amounts, dates, and transaction types, then automatically categorizes each expense into predefined groups (Food, Software/SaaS, Travel, Office, Marketing, Professional Services, Personal, Other)
4. Check for Duplicates — Queries your Airtable expense tracker to prevent double-logging of the same transaction
5. Log New Expenses — Creates records in Airtable with merchant, amount, category, date, and account information for a searchable, sortable expense database
6. Generate Spending Summary — Uses Claude Sonnet to analyze weekly spending patterns, calculate totals by category, track week-over-week changes, and flag categories exceeding budget
7. Update Budget Dashboard — Syncs the weekly summary to your Notion budget dashboard for quick visual reference
